DMRVFD Acquires Four New Water Tanks to Bolster Firefighting Efforts

The DMRVFD (Davis Mountain Resort Volunteer Fire Department) proudly announced the addition of four brand new 3000-gallon water tanks to their firefighting arsenal. These tanks, obtained as of June 12, 2023, will significantly enhance the department’s ability to combat fires and protect the community.

The initiative to procure the water tanks traces back to former Fire Chief Darrel Fellers, who spearheaded the Adopt-A-Tank program between 2013 and 2015. As part of the program, the DMRVFD purchased the 3000-gallon tanks, with residents kindly allowing the department to place them strategically on their properties. The agreement specified that the property owners would maintain the tanks’ water levels, exclusively for firefighting purposes.

Currently, approximately 20 water tanks are dispersed strategically throughout the resort, serving as crucial water sources during fire emergencies. With these tanks strategically located, firefighters can refill their trucks on-site, saving valuable time and potentially safeguarding homes and structures.

In preparation for the upcoming season, the fire department is undertaking maintenance checks on the tanks. Due to incomplete winterizing of connections, DMRVFD firefighters will be conducting inspections on Sunday, May 7. Residents can expect the fire department personnel to visit their properties and assess water levels and connections. The tanks are marked with the label “property of DMRVFD” and some indicate non-potable water.

Although the fire department can assist in topping off partially empty tanks, completely empty tanks would require multiple trips to refill. Residents are urged to check their tanks regularly and, if possible, ensure they are adequately filled. For those who recently acquired property and are unaware of the DMRVFD’s tank presence, Chief Edna Queen possesses the necessary contracts for voluntary inclusion. Alternatively, arrangements can be made to relocate tanks from properties where they are no longer desired.

To further augment their firefighting capabilities, the DMRVFD is actively seeking funds to purchase additional water tanks. Each tank costs $3000.00, with delivery expenses, making it increasingly challenging for the department to acquire more.

Chief Edna Queen encourages residents who possess tanks on their property to consider allowing the fire department to utilize them during fire emergencies. Necessary fire hose connections will be added to facilitate water drafting solely in such critical situations.

The DMRVFD expresses their gratitude in advance to the community for their support in this vital undertaking.
