Late last month, Brewster County Sheriff’s Office conducted a successful traffic stop resulting in the arrest of Ana Cristina Alarcon Rios and the seizure of 24.5 pounds of cocaine concealed in a 2013 Ford Explorer. The case has been referred to Homeland Security Investigations for prosecution, with the Sheriff’s Office expressing gratitude to the US Border Patrol for their equipment assistance in the investigation.

Brewster County Deputies were patrolling West of Alpine when they pulled over the aforementioned vehicle. During the routine traffic stop, Brewster County K9 Latek was deployed to conduct a free air sniff of the vehicle, which quickly alerted to the presence of narcotic odor. Subsequently, a thorough search of the Ford Explorer led to the discovery of hidden compartments concealing the sizable amount of cocaine.
Law enforcement wasted no time taking Ana Cristina Alarcon Rios into custody, as they suspect her involvement in the transportation of the illicit substance. To ensure a comprehensive investigation, the case has been handed over to Homeland Security Investigations for further legal proceedings.
