Presidio County Sheriff Accused of Dishonesty Over Environmental Concerns Inquiry

A recent incident involving Presidio County Sheriff Danny Dominguez has raised serious questions about his honesty and accountability. This follows a phone call from a Big Bend Times reporter investigating potential environmental violations at the local Sheriff’s office and jail.

On Monday, June 5th, I, David Flash, Publisher of Big Bend Times, contacted Sheriff Dominguez on his county-issued cell phone at (432) 295-2905. My intention was to pose questions regarding a story we have been covering, involving the improper storage of used oil and trash behind the sheriff’s department and jail.

Upon introducing myself and stating the purpose of my call, Sheriff Dominguez instantly asserted that I had dialed the wrong number. This response was puzzling to say the least, especially considering I had confirmed with the county that the number I dialed was indeed paid for by them and associated with Sheriff Dominguez.

As a publisher, I have to question the integrity of a public servant who would provide a false statement to avoid a conversation about his department. The basic tenets of public service involve honesty, transparency, and accountability. This incident casts a shadow on these values and leads me to question Sheriff Dominguez’s credibility.

Public servants should not shy away from truth and accountability, especially when it concerns the wellbeing of the community they serve. If a man can’t be honest in small things, should he be trusted with big things? My encounter with Sheriff Dominguez leaves this question hanging and suggests that further scrutiny of the Sheriff’s conduct may be warranted.

The community of Presidio County deserves public servants who are open, honest, and dedicated to the safety and well-being of the people. As our investigation continues, we aim to uphold these values and push for transparency and accountability from those in power.
