The Alpine Fire Department has announced that Firefighter Shelby Green recently achieved her United States Corps of Chaplains (USCC) Chaplain certification.
For nearly a century, the volunteer fire department has provided services to the City of Alpine and parts of Brewster County. The team is composed of dedicated community members such as Green, who continue to contribute to the safety and wellness of the area.
Chaplains have traditionally played a critical role in fire services, providing much-needed emotional and spiritual support in times of crisis. They offer grief and trauma counseling to victims and their families, as well as to the firefighters who often encounter challenging situations in their line of work.
With Green’s certification, the department has expanded its available resources. In her new role as Chaplain, Green will offer comfort, guidance, and counseling during and after emergencies, extending support to victims and fire service personnel alike.

“We are very happy to have this new resource for our community and department,” the department’s Facebook post read, and community members also expressed their support and appreciation in comments.
The addition of a Chaplain to the Alpine Fire Department highlights the significance of comprehensive support in emergency services, recognizing the value of mental and emotional wellbeing in tandem with physical safety.
In achieving this certification, Green has deepened the level of support available to her community and fellow firefighters. The residents of the City of Alpine and Brewster County will no doubt appreciate the enhanced services of their local fire department.
