Brewster County Declares International Dark Sky Week to Raise Awareness and Protect the Night Skies

On April 11, 2023, the Judge of Brewster County, Greg Henington, declared April 15-22, 2023 as International Dark Sky Week in Brewster County. The week-long event aims to raise awareness and support for protecting the precious dark skies resources in the region and to position Brewster County as a leader in dark-sky awareness.

The declaration was made possible through the collaborative efforts of Linda Beranek of Marathon, TX, and the Chair of the Dark Sky Reserve. It is a call to action for the residents of Brewster County to join in observing the week and spreading the word about the importance of protecting the night skies.

Brewster County is home to some of the most breathtaking and clear night skies in the United States. By declaring International Dark Sky Week, the county hopes to encourage residents to take a closer look at the stars and appreciate the natural beauty that surrounds them.
