Five Mexican nationals apprehended in southeastern Brewster County after two-day search

Five Mexican nationals were apprehended Tuesday afternoon in southeastern Brewster County following a search involving the Brewster County Sheriff’s Office, U.S. Border Patrol and U.S. Customs and Border Protection Air Operations.

According to the Brewster County Sheriff’s Office, authorities first detected the group early Sunday morning and tracked their movements for more than two days before taking them into custody Tuesday afternoon.

The sheriff’s office said the five individuals attempted to evade law enforcement during the operation.

Brewster County deputies worked alongside federal Border Patrol agents and CBP aviation personnel to locate and apprehend the group in the rugged terrain of southeastern Brewster County.

Photographs released by the sheriff’s office show several individuals seated along a rocky hillside surrounded by brush and vegetation. Another photograph shows a group walking through a rocky drainage area in the mountainous landscape.

Authorities identified all five individuals as Mexican citizens.

Following their apprehension, the individuals were transferred to U.S. Border Patrol custody for immigration processing and removal proceedings, according to the sheriff’s office.

Officials did not identify the precise location of the apprehensions, disclose whether aircraft or drones were used during the search, or provide additional information about the individuals’ circumstances.

The sheriff’s office also did not report any injuries or indicate whether criminal charges would be filed.

The operation highlights ongoing cooperation between local law enforcement and federal immigration authorities in the Big Bend region, where remote desert and mountainous terrain can complicate search and apprehension efforts.

No additional details about the operation were immediately provided.
