Construction is underway at Manuel Payne Field in Alpine, where crews have begun demolishing the existing softball field and installing a new drainage system as part of improvements for Alpine Independent School District.
SCG Fields LLC, the contractor overseeing the project, announced the start of construction in a social media update Tuesday, Oct. 27, following a recent groundbreaking ceremony.
According to the company, crews have started removing the existing playing surface and preparing the site for drainage improvements that will support the installation of a new playing surface.
“These early stages are an important part of preparing the field for its new playing surface, and we’re excited to see the transformation get underway,” the company said.
Photographs shared by SCG Fields show the softball field with much of its existing surface removed and construction equipment positioned around the site. The images also capture the surrounding Alpine landscape, including the Davis Mountains in the distance.
The improvements represent an investment in Alpine ISD’s athletic facilities and are expected to provide an updated playing environment for student-athletes.
SCG Fields specializes in sports field construction and development.
The company did not provide an anticipated completion date or total project cost in its latest update.
