Saint’s Desert Kitchen brings scratch-made food to Dryden

A new restaurant in the small Terrell County community of Dryden is serving up burgers, tacos, seafood and Southern favorites with a rotating menu emphasizing scratch-made cooking.

Saint’s Desert Kitchen celebrated its grand opening in early September and is operating at 1944 U.S. Highway 90, offering residents and travelers another dining option in Far West Texas.

The restaurant describes its approach as a scratch kitchen featuring local favorites and flavors from across the United States.

“Good food. Big flavour. Desert style,” the business says in its social media description.

Its menu features a variety of American and regional dishes, including cheeseburgers, specialty burgers, tacos, chicken cheesesteaks, fried chicken and seafood.

Among the advertised selections are an American cheeseburger with mustard, ketchup, lettuce, onions and pickles, and a Western burger topped with pepper jack cheese, barbecue sauce, grilled onions and jalapeños.

Other featured items include a chicken cheesesteak with provolone, peppers, onions and chipotle mayonnaise.

The restaurant has also promoted blackened mahi tacos with pineapple slaw and cilantro-lime crema, shrimp tacos with pineapple slaw and lime crema, and steak chimichurri tacos.

Additional menu offerings have included a shrimp po’boy, Southern fried chicken with french fries and a catfish platter served with macaroni and cheese, coleslaw and fries.

The restaurant’s rotating menu means selections may change, with weekend specials providing additional options.

In a Sept. 8 social media announcement, the business thanked customers for supporting its grand opening.

“We want to thank everyone who came out and supported us for our grand opening this past weekend,” the restaurant wrote, encouraging customers to watch for upcoming specials.

The opening has generated positive responses from customers, including people traveling from neighboring communities.

“Ventured over from Sanderson for dinner Monday night and loved every bite! Grateful to have you in Far West Texas!” customer Melanie Kaihani wrote in response to the restaurant’s announcement.

Abyigail Blaylock, who identified herself as being involved with the restaurant, also expressed appreciation for the community’s support.

“It means so much to be able to help bring this place to life,” Blaylock wrote.

The restaurant’s arrival adds another locally operated dining option along U.S. Highway 90 in a sparsely populated stretch of Terrell County, where restaurants and other services can be separated by considerable distances.
