The Rev. Celeste McIntyre is the new pastor of First Assembly of God in Alpine, a congregation with roots stretching back more than seven decades.
McIntyre introduced herself in a message to local newspapers, sharing the church’s weekly schedule and requesting its inclusion in local places-of-worship listings. The Assemblies of God’s national and West Texas district directories also identify her as the congregation’s pastor.
The church, at 1802 Fort Davis Highway, holds Bible study at 9:30 a.m. Sundays, followed by worship at 11 a.m. and lunch at noon. A prayer service takes place at 6 p.m. Thursdays, according to McIntyre. The address is also listed in the denomination’s national directory.
The congregation was established in 1954 after Walter and Alene Esch moved to Alpine following his graduation from Southwestern Bible Institute in Waxahachie. The couple led the church until retiring from full-time ministry in 1979, according to Walter Esch’s obituary published by Alpine Memorial Funeral Home.
