Ojinaga Mayor Lucy Marrufo joined local health officials and the Ojinaga Women’s Institute in organizing a breast cancer awareness campaign as part of October’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month observance.
The initiative focused on educating women about breast cancer prevention, early detection and the importance of regular health screenings.
According to the municipal government, the campaign was conducted in coordination with the local health sector and the Instituto Ojinaguense de la Mujer, an organization dedicated to supporting women in the community.
Following the awareness activities, organizers held a “Lotería Rosa,” or Pink Lottery, bringing participants together for a traditional Mexican lottery game featuring refreshments, prizes and opportunities for community engagement.
The event combined public health education with recreational activities intended to encourage participation and strengthen community connections.
Municipal officials said the initiative reflects their continuing commitment to promoting women’s health and increasing awareness of the importance of preventive care.
Breast cancer is among the most commonly diagnosed cancers in women worldwide. Health professionals emphasize that early detection through appropriate screening can improve treatment outcomes and reduce breast cancer mortality.
October is internationally recognized as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, with governments, health organizations and community groups organizing educational campaigns and screening initiatives.
The Ojinaga municipal government said it will continue promoting awareness and encouraging women to prioritize their health.
