Mexican security forces seized an armored vehicle, explosives, ammunition, drones and surveillance equipment during an operation Wednesday in and around Ojinaga, according to El Sol de Ojinaga.
The operation was carried out Sept. 17 by SWAT special forces and the Special Detectives Group of Chihuahua’s State Public Security Secretariat, or SSPE, according to the Ojinaga news outlet.
Authorities conducted operations in Los Cienes, Las Bombas and El Oasis, as well as along the Camargo-Ojinaga highway.
El Sol de Ojinaga reported that officers recovered a 2019 Ford Shelby equipped with Level 5 Plus armor. The vehicle had reportedly been listed as stolen in Colorado since May 2023.
Authorities also seized 100 stun grenades, an improvised explosive device, four disabled drones, a 12-gauge shotgun, .50-caliber and .223-caliber ammunition and surveillance equipment, according to El Sol de Ojinaga.
The seized equipment was transported to Chihuahua City early Thursday, Sept. 18, and turned over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation, the outlet reported.
The operation comes amid heightened security activity along the Chihuahua-Ojinaga corridor. Earlier this week, state officials said authorities had increased their presence in the region following an armed attack on an SSPE helicopter near Ojinaga. State officials said the broader security operation involves state police, investigative authorities, the Mexican National Guard and military personnel.
