U.S. Ambassador to Mexico Ronald Johnson highlighted the arrest in Ojinaga of an alleged regional operator for the criminal organization La Línea who is wanted in the United States on drug trafficking charges.
Johnson said Epifanio “N,” also known as “Pepa,” was arrested by the Mexican army in coordination with the Mexican National Guard following intelligence work and information sharing between authorities in Mexico and the United States.
According to Johnson, the suspect is believed to have served as a regional operator for a criminal organization involved in trafficking drugs and people into the United States.
Johnson said Epifanio is also wanted for extradition to the United States on charges related to drug trafficking.
The ambassador credited cooperation between the two countries with helping authorities locate and apprehend the suspect, saying intelligence sharing is an important part of efforts to target criminal organizations operating along the U.S.-Mexico border.
“Those who threaten our communities will be found and held accountable,” Johnson said in a social media post.
Ojinaga, Chihuahua, sits directly across the Rio Grande from Presidio, Texas, and is one of the principal border crossings connecting Mexico with the Big Bend region of Texas.
