A Big Bend tour operator is expanding its offerings across the Rio Grande, announcing a new four-day excursion to the Maderas del Carmen protected area in northern Mexico.
Big Bend Boating and Hiking Company announced the new tour Wednesday on social media, describing the trip as a four-day, three-night, all-inclusive visit to Reserva Maderas del Carmen, about 30 miles from Boquillas del Carmen, Coahuila.
Photos shared by the company show a remote mountain lodge overlooking water, cabin-style accommodations and rugged backcountry roads through the mountainous landscape.
Maderas del Carmen is a vast protected natural area directly across the international border from the Big Bend region of Texas. The reserve encompasses portions of the Sierra del Carmen, the dramatic mountain range visible from much of Big Bend National Park.
The protected area forms part of one of North America’s largest cross-border conservation landscapes, adjoining protected lands in the United States and Mexico. Its forests, desert and mountain ecosystems provide habitat for black bears, mountain lions and numerous other species.
The new tour represents an opportunity for Big Bend visitors to explore the Mexican side of the region beyond the more familiar day trips to Boquillas del Carmen.
Big Bend Boating and Hiking Company said the excursion includes three nights of accommodations. Additional details about transportation, activities and border-crossing requirements were not included in the company’s announcement.
The company listed 469-607-9869 for information and reservations.
