The Marathon Volunteer Fire Department has received a $15,400 donation generated through the Marathon Songwriters Festival and its sponsors, providing a significant contribution to the volunteer organization serving the small Brewster County community.
The Gage Resort & Spa announced the donation this week, thanking the festival and its sponsors for making the contribution possible.
“We love you MVFD, thank you for all that you do for our community,” the Gage said in announcing the donation.
The contribution follows the 2026 Marathon Songwriters Festival, held Aug. 6-8 in Marathon. The three-day festival featured performances at the Gage Hotel, Gage Gardens, Gage Dance Court and Brick Vault Brewery & Barbecue.
This year’s lineup included Wade Bowen, Adam Wright, Leslie Jordan, Kelley Mickwee, Charlie Stout, Davis Naish, Josh Grider and Drew Kennedy.
The festival is designed around intimate performances that bring songwriters and audiences together in the Far West Texas community. Only 300 tickets were made available for the event, reflecting organizers’ emphasis on maintaining a small festival experience.
The $15,400 donation adds a community benefit to an event that also brings visitors to Marathon and supports local lodging, restaurants and other businesses.
The Marathon Volunteer Fire Department provides emergency response in the remote Big Bend community and also participates in community events and local fundraising efforts.
The Marathon Songwriters Festival is hosted by the Gage Hotel and Brick Vault Brewery & Barbecue and celebrates songwriting and storytelling in Far West Texas.
For a town of only a few hundred residents, the donation represents another example of how Marathon’s destination events can translate visitor activity into direct support for organizations serving the local community.
