Alpine students and staff will have plenty of drinking water during the city’s boil water advisory — although they may have to explain the packaging.
The Alpine Fire Department donated a pallet of canned drinking water to Alpine ISD ahead of the first day of school, helping the district keep students and employees hydrated while water fountains are unavailable.
The emergency drinking water was donated by Anheuser-Busch, and the white aluminum cans — complete with the company’s familiar eagle logo and branding — bear more than a passing resemblance to a certain other beverage the brewer is known for producing.
Alpine ISD anticipated the obvious questions.
“We repeat: IT. IS. WATER,” the district joked in a social media post, adding that if a child comes home saying, “You’ll never believe what they gave us at school today!” parents shouldn’t panic.
The cans are part of Anheuser-Busch’s emergency drinking water program, through which the brewer periodically pauses beer production to package water for communities and first responders during disasters and other emergencies.
The district thanked the Alpine Fire Department for helping supply the water and asked parents to send students to school with water bottles. The canned water will be available for students and staff who need refills or forget to bring their own.
As Alpine ISD put it: “Cheers — to WATER!”
