Sul Ross State seeks bilingual business adviser in Alpine

Sul Ross State University is accepting applications for a bilingual business adviser who will counsel entrepreneurs and support economic development across the region.

The position, based at the university’s Small Business Development Center in Alpine, pays $50,000 annually and will remain open until filled.

The adviser will counsel existing and prospective business owners on business plans, marketing, accounting, record keeping, financing and management. The employee will also conduct training seminars and serve as a liaison among clients, government agencies, financial institutions and private businesses.

Sul Ross said the position covers a large geographic area and may require extensive travel, including overnight and out-of-state trips. The employee must maintain a valid driver’s license and a driving record acceptable to the university.

Applicants must be fluent in Spanish and hold a bachelor’s degree, preferably in a business-related field. They must also have at least two years of successful experience in business, banking, consulting or business training. An MBA or another specialized master’s degree in a business-related field, such as economics, is preferred.

Required application materials include a resume, letter of intent and transcripts. Applicants may also submit as many as three letters of recommendation and additional transcripts.

The university warned applicants that resumes and curricula vitae do not replace the employment information required on the application. Each employment-history entry should include the job title, dates of employment, employer’s name, supervisor’s name and phone number and a description of duties. Applications without complete information may be rejected.

The position is classified as security-sensitive and is subject to a criminal history review under Texas law. Sul Ross State is an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer.
