The city of Alpine implemented mandatory Stage 4 water restrictions Monday evening after what officials described as a critical failure in the municipal well system disrupted the city’s water supply and distribution capacity.
The restrictions took effect immediately under the city’s Drought Contingency and Water Conservation Plan, according to a statement issued at 7:10 p.m. Monday.
Residents and businesses are prohibited from watering lawns or landscaping, washing vehicles or paved surfaces, and filling or refilling swimming pools, hot tubs and ornamental fountains.
The city is also directing residents to repair water leaks as quickly as possible and limit water use to essential health and safety needs.
Officials warned that customers could experience reduced water pressure or temporary service interruptions while crews work to stabilize the system.
The city said utility employees, technical experts, emergency management officials and regional partners are working to restore normal operations as quickly as possible. Officials did not immediately provide additional details about the well failure or an estimated timeline for repairs.
Residents were asked to monitor the city of Alpine’s website and the Alpine Police Department’s social media accounts for updates.
