Theatre of the Big Bend to present ‘Schoolhouse Rock Live!’ at Kokernot Outdoor Theatre

Theatre of the Big Bend will bring the classic educational musical Schoolhouse Rock Live! to the Kokernot Outdoor Theatre this July, offering audiences a nostalgic mix of songs, storytelling and family-friendly entertainment.

Performances are scheduled for July 2–19 at 8 p.m. at the Kokernot Outdoor Theatre in Alpine.

Based on the beloved television series created by George Newall and Tom Yohe, Schoolhouse Rock Live! adapts the animated educational shorts into a stage production featuring songs that generations of viewers remember for lessons in grammar, math, science, history and civics.

The production was originally adapted for the stage by Theatre BAM and is based on an idea by David McCall. The musical’s book was written by Scott Ferguson, George Keating and Kyle Hall, with music and lyrics by Lynn Ahrens, Bob Dorough, Dave Frishberg, Kathy Mandry, George Newall and Tom Yohe.

Theatre of the Big Bend, based at Sul Ross State University, regularly stages summer productions at the historic outdoor venue, drawing audiences from across the Big Bend region.
