Alpine council weighs safety measures, future splash pad concept for former kiddie pool area

Alpine city leaders are considering long-term possibilities for a portion of the municipal pool complex while prioritizing public safety around a former kiddie pool area.

During Tuesday’s City Council meeting, officials discussed how to manage the space surrounding the kiddie pool, ultimately favoring temporary safety measures instead of immediate reconstruction.

Council members discussed leaving the area largely unchanged for now while using fencing and warning notices to address concerns over uneven terrain and potential tripping hazards.

Officials noted the site includes sloped areas that could create safety issues for visitors if left unrestricted.

Rather than immediately pursuing a larger redevelopment project, city leaders discussed preserving flexibility for future improvements, including the possibility of eventually transforming the space into a splash pad.

A splash pad could provide an alternative recreational amenity for younger children while requiring different maintenance and water demands than a traditional shallow pool.

No formal timeline or funding proposal was discussed for future redevelopment, though the conversation signaled continued interest in expanding family-oriented recreational options at the city’s aquatic facilities.

For now, the council’s focus remains on ensuring the area is safe while the broader pool project moves toward completion.
