Alpine ISD to Offer Used Buck Stadium Turf to Community Members at No Cost

Alpine Independent School District will make used turf from Buck Stadium available to community members and organizations as part of the district’s upcoming summer turf replacement project.

According to Alpine ISD, the existing turf surface at Buck Stadium has been declared surplus property and will be removed and discarded in accordance with district policy. Before disposal, the district plans to offer rolls of used turf free of charge while supplies last.

The district said the turf is approximately 14 years old and in used condition. Turf rolls will be cut into sections measuring about 20 feet by 40 feet and weighing roughly 1,800 pounds each. Approximately 200 rolls are expected to be available.

Recipients will be responsible for pick-up and transportation. Alpine ISD noted that individuals must provide their own trailer or equipment capable of transporting the heavy rolls, though the resurfacing company will assist with loading. Turf rolls cannot be resized, customized or separated, and requests for specific sections of the field will not be honored.

Pick-up is expected to take place May 21–22 or May 26–29, depending on construction progress. The district said turf rolls not picked up by the final day of removal will be discarded.

Community members interested in receiving a roll of turf may complete the district’s sign-up form online. Alpine ISD said individuals selected for pickup scheduling will be contacted using the information provided on the form.
