Terlingua Fire & EMS crews responded Monday afternoon to a large fire involving tires and a vehicle near BJ’s RV Park, according to local officials.
Terlingua Fire & EMS said firefighters were dispatched at about 2:19 p.m. May 5 after reports of a large column of smoke in the area.
Upon arrival, firefighters found a large area containing tires burning along with a vehicle fire. Mutual aid assistance was requested from Big Bend National Park firefighters as crews worked to contain the blaze.
Officials said the landowner used heavy equipment to push a dirt line around the fire to help prevent its spread. The fire was brought under control by about 3:25 p.m.
Terlingua Fire & EMS thanked seven department personnel, four firefighters from Big Bend National Park, a Brewster County Sheriff’s deputy and several community members who assisted during the response.
No injuries were reported, and officials said no occupied structures were damaged in the fire.
Terlingua Fire & EMS Chief Susan Martin shared details of the incident in a public statement Tuesday.
