Texas Downtown regional roundtable set for July 9-10 in Alpine

A regional roundtable focused on downtown development, tourism and community revitalization is scheduled for July 9-10 in Alpine, with organizers urging early travel planning as lodging demand is expected to be high.

Hosted as part of the Texas Downtown program, the event will bring together community leaders, planners and stakeholders to discuss strategies for economic development, cultural programming and public space improvements in small and mid-sized communities.

Registration is expected to open later this month. Organizers advised prospective attendees to secure accommodations in advance, noting that room availability in Alpine is limited during peak travel periods.

Programming highlights include sessions on national museum partnerships, including insights tied to the Smithsonian’s “Spark! Places of Innovation” initiative, and discussions on how communities can develop and host similar exhibits. Attendees will also hear from regional partners about lessons learned through collaborations involving the Museum of the Big Bend and the Texas Mountain Trail Region.

The roundtable will feature a guided dark sky experience in the Greater Big Bend International Dark Sky Reserve, with participation from McDonald Observatory representatives, including a planned star party at Kokernot Park.

Additional sessions will explore the role of public art in downtown transformation, with examples from Alpine and other Texas communities, including approaches to funding and activating underused spaces.

Evening programming is expected to include live music and networking opportunities at The Ritchey, a restored adobe venue recognized for small live music performances.

More information, including registration details, is available through Visit Alpine.
