Eight stolen vehicles recovered near Presidio; multiple arrests made

Authorities in Presidio County have recovered eight stolen vehicles that were being transported toward Mexico, according to the Presidio County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office said it assisted the Texas Department of Public Safety Criminal Investigation Division in the operation, which targeted vehicles moving through one of the Transmigrante lots along U.S. 67 north of Presidio.

Investigators determined the vehicles had been concealed inside tractor-trailers scheduled for export into Mexico through Ojinaga. Officials said the vehicles were altered with fictitious vehicle identification numbers and other identifiers.

Multiple arrests were made late Thursday and early Friday in connection with the case, authorities said.

The sheriff’s office also seized the tractor-trailers involved, citing their use in the commission of a crime. The case includes charges related to possession of a stolen vehicle under Texas Penal Code 31.03.

Further details about the suspects and charges were not immediately released.
