Sul Ross rodeo team members earn academic honors at annual convocation

Students on the Sul Ross State University rodeo team were recognized for academic achievement during the university’s annual Honors Convocation, with more than two-thirds of the team earning Distinguished Scholar Athlete awards.

Cameron Haumea was named the outstanding student in Sustainable Ranch Management, highlighting both academic excellence and leadership within the program.

The Distinguished Scholar Athlete honorees included Katlyn Barnett, Chloe Berlin, Hannah Blackwell, Kasha Borsy, Karly Camozzi, Brent Charlton, Codee Chavez, Zane Cline, Kasen Conring, Cameron Haumea, Stetson Jameson, Riley Jenkins, Bridger Ketcham, Melanie Moossdorff, Blake Nielsen, Rylee Sabelko, Jake Saults, Chase Skene, Cameron Tune and Beau West.

University officials noted the strong academic performance across the rodeo program, emphasizing the balance between competition and classroom success.

“Over two-thirds of the rodeo team earned Distinguished Scholar Athlete awards—putting the student in student-athlete,” the team said in a statement.
