Visitors to Big Bend Ranch State Park will have an opportunity to explore creativity while learning conservation principles during an upcoming “Art in the Park” program along the Rio Grande.
The event is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 13, 2026, at the Contrabando Movie Set located along FM 170.
Hosted by park staff, the program will focus on Leave No Trace ethics, specifically the principle “Leave What You Find.” Participants will learn how artistic activities such as drawing, painting, sculpting and nature journaling can help preserve memories of natural spaces without disturbing the environment.
The session will feature special guest Yosdy Valdivia, a local curator of the Galleria Raices in Presidio, who will assist with instruction and guidance during the program.
All art materials will be provided. Attendees are encouraged to bring a chair or blanket, water, sunscreen and weather-appropriate clothing.
The program is included with park admission. Entry fees are $5 for adults, while children 12 and under are admitted free. Visitors with a Texas State Parks Pass may have entrance fees waived. Passes can be obtained at Fort Leaton State Historic Site or Barton Warnock Visitor Center.
