Sul Ross State University hiring defensive coordinator, assistant football coach

Sul Ross State University is accepting applications for a Defensive Coordinator–Assistant Football Coach position within its athletic department.

The position, based in Alpine, is responsible for leading and developing the university’s defensive football unit, including coaching, recruiting, compliance and student-athlete development.

According to the job posting, duties include coordinating defensive schemes and play-calling, developing game plans, coaching a defensive position group, recruiting and evaluating student-athletes and supervising defensive staff. The role also involves supporting academic success, assisting with team operations and participating in fundraising and community outreach.

Applicants must hold at least a bachelor’s degree, with a master’s degree preferred, and have collegiate defensive coaching experience. Additional requirements include knowledge of defensive systems, NCAA rules, recruiting ability and strong communication and leadership skills.

The position is full-time, with evening and weekend hours required during the football season, as well as travel for games, recruiting and camps. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
