Sul Ross State University is seeking applicants for a Curator of Collections position at the Museum of the Big Bend.
The full-time role, based in Alpine, focuses on managing, preserving and interpreting the museum’s collections, including historical artifacts, documents and maps related to the Big Bend region. The curator also serves as a primary research contact for inquiries about regional history.
According to the job posting, responsibilities include developing and installing exhibits, maintaining collection records, conducting educational programs and tours, supervising student workers and collaborating with local and regional historical organizations. The position also involves overseeing environmental conditions and safety for both collection and exhibit spaces.
Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree in history, museum studies, art or a related field, along with at least three years of curatorial experience. A master’s degree is preferred. Candidates should also demonstrate experience in collections management, exhibit design and public engagement, as well as strong communication skills.
The position offers an annual salary of $56,000 and may require occasional evening and weekend work.
