Marfa Independent School District students delivered a strong showing at a recent University Interscholastic League academic meet, earning seven regional qualifications and a second-place team finish in literary criticism.
Dariela Munoz led the group with a first-place finish in feature writing. Piper Donaldson placed third in science and was recognized as top biology student.
Other regional qualifiers included Aidyn Gonzales (third, accounting), Ava Flores (third, copy editing), Daniela Fernandez (third, informative speaking), Seth Nunez (third, mathematics) and Giselle Torres (third, news writing).
Several students earned alternate placements. Mikayla Bentley placed fourth in accounting and sixth in ready writing. Mateo Meza finished fourth in social studies and spelling and sixth in literary criticism. Vanessa Diaz placed fourth and Liliana Zubia fifth in literary criticism, while Heidi Montes took sixth in persuasive speaking. Ayven Pippen placed second in science and earned top physics honors. Munoz also added a fourth-place finish in editorial writing.
Marfa ISD’s literary criticism team — Mateo Meza, Vanessa Diaz, Liliana Zubia, Daniela, Belen and Alexis V. — placed second overall.
District officials said the students represented Marfa ISD with excellence and will advance to regional competition.
