Hollie King has been named the new head coach of the volleyball program at Sul Ross State University, university officials announced. King began her role March 16.
“Coach King brings a deep passion for building a volleyball program that is both competitive and rooted in community to Sul Ross State,” said Vice President of Intercollegiate Athletics Amanda Workman. “She is committed to developing her players not only as athletes, but also as students and individuals of strong character. We are excited to welcome Coach King and her family to Alpine and look forward to the positive impact she will have on our student-athletes and the future of our program.”
King most recently served as head coach at Wesleyan College, where she led the program for the past two years. During her tenure, the Wolves produced two All–Collegiate Conference of the South selections, and seven student-athletes earned 2024-25 Academic All-Conference honors.
Before her time at Wesleyan, King spent nearly a decade coaching at the club and K-12 levels across Texas from 2014 to 2023.
King entered the college coaching ranks in 2023 as an assistant coach at Dallas Christian College. There, she helped the Lady Crusaders qualify for the NCCAA Regional tournament and assisted in the development of two All-Region players.
In January 2020, King founded A+ Athletics, an organization that provides training, guidance and recruiting assistance for volleyball players seeking to compete at the collegiate level. Through the program, more than 100 high school athletes have gone on to enroll and play volleyball in college.
“I could not be more excited to take on this responsibility as we work to build a championship volleyball program that will make Sul Ross University and the Alpine, Texas community proud,” King said. “Every successful team is built on alignment in leadership and a shared vision for excellence. It starts with the university’s support, continues with the coaching staff, and extends to every student-athlete who represents Sul Ross. Together, we are committed to building a first-class program that competes with passion, discipline and pride.”
King holds an associate degree in medical assisting from Remington College and a bachelor’s degree in physical education from St. Andrews University. She also holds certifications in CPR, certified medical assisting, AED and TEFL.
King resides in Alpine with her children, Chandler and Skylar.
