Brewster County Deputies Rescue Dehydrated Migrant Abandoned in Remote Desert Area

Deputies with the Brewster County Sheriff’s Office rescued a man Sunday afternoon who authorities said had been abandoned in an extremely remote area of southeastern Brewster County and was suffering from dehydration and severe fatigue.

According to the sheriff’s office, the man is from Muzquiz and had reportedly been left behind by a guide while traveling through the rugged desert terrain.

Deputies located the individual in an isolated stretch of the county where temperatures and limited water sources can quickly create life-threatening conditions. Officials said the man showed signs of dehydration and extreme exhaustion when deputies reached him.

A Brewster County deputy who is certified as a basic emergency medical technician provided immediate medical assistance and examined the man at the scene.

After receiving aid, the individual was transferred to agents with U.S. Border Patrol for immigration processing and removal proceedings.

Authorities frequently respond to calls involving migrants in distress in the vast desert areas of Brewster County, where remote terrain and long distances between roads and settlements can pose serious risks for people attempting to cross the region on foot.
