Ojinaga plans cultural reunion event honoring Víctor Sotelo Mata

A full day of music, culture and community activities is planned April 4 as Ojinaga hosts the 2026 Reencuentro Ojinaguense, a celebration honoring local figure Víctor Sotelo Mata.

The event will begin at 9 a.m. with a parade of classic cars, Jeeps, RZR off-road vehicles and motorcycles departing from the Poliforo Ojinaga and traveling along Avenida Camargo, Libre Comercio, Avenida Trasviña y Retes and Calle Juárez.

Activities will then move to Parque Manuel Ojinaga beginning at 9:55 a.m., where organizers will inaugurate a photographic exhibition and present a program featuring dance, regional music and local cuisine. Scheduled performances include Zumba Libertad, Sombra Norteña, Grupo Shilakil and La Nave 11, along with appearances by Saraí Gardea, Betito Cordero and Conjunto Calor. Local gastronomy will also be highlighted with traditional Ojinaga dishes.

At 4 p.m., organizers will present recognitions to Sotelo and continue the cultural program with performances by Carlos and Ervey Rodríguez, Acuario 90, Mariachi Santa Cruz and Proyecto D.

An exhibition will open at 5:40 p.m. in the central courtyard of the municipal palace, followed by a 7 p.m. ceremony unveiling a monument dedicated to Sotelo. Evening performers include Cinthia Marisela, Dominantes de Ojinaga, La Leyenda del Bravo and Luk Vegas.

The celebration will conclude at 10 p.m. with a dance at the municipal plaza featuring the danzonera “La Victoria” led by Don Mario Montes.

The Reencuentro Ojinaguense is organized by Amigos de Víctor and aims to highlight Ojinaga’s cultural traditions while honoring Sotelo’s legacy in the community.
