Fort Davis has been selected to join the Texas Historical Commission’s 2026 First Street Initiative, a program aimed at helping communities strengthen and improve historic downtown areas.
The selection makes Fort Davis one of 24 communities in the new cohort and the first unincorporated community included in the effort. The program connects local leaders with training, planning support and peer communities working on downtown improvement projects tied to preservation and economic activity.
In Fort Davis, the initiative is expected to support work tied to the historic Main Street area, including pedestrian improvements, public gathering spaces, signage, small-business support and other community-focused enhancements. Participation in the program could also help position the community for future consideration in the Texas Main Street Program.
