U.S. Border Patrol agents stopped an alleged human smuggling attempt at a checkpoint near Alpine and seized a small amount of cocaine during the encounter, authorities said.
According to Big Bend Sector Border Patrol officials, agents arrested a driver and detained five passengers who were determined to be in the United States without legal authorization.
During the stop, agents also discovered and seized more than 26 grams of cocaine.
Border Patrol officials said the case reflects ongoing enforcement efforts targeting human smuggling and drug trafficking along the U.S.-Mexico border.
