The Alpine Varsity Fightin’ Lady Bucks dropped a 3–1 contest to the Midland Legacy Rebels in a defensive matchup played under extremely windy conditions.
Both teams struggled to generate consistent offense as gusty winds affected play throughout the game.
“Today’s game was abnormal with the high winds. It was difficult for both teams to get consistent hitting going,” Alpine coach Chris Virdell said.
Despite the challenging conditions, Alpine’s pitching staff delivered a solid performance in the circle. Kody Hawkins started for the Lady Bucks, pitching three innings and allowing three runs on five hits while striking out four and walking four.
Freshman Angelina Carter followed with a strong relief appearance, pitching two innings and allowing just two hits while keeping Midland Legacy scoreless. Junior Taryn Hardin closed out the game, giving up three hits and no runs.
“It was definitely good to see all three pitchers in one game. We have been working up to using them this way,” Virdell said. “All three have different styles and speeds, which will benefit the team through district and postseason play.”
Offensively, Alpine recorded three hits in the game, with Emily Sweat, Hardin and Zariah Galvan each contributing one. Hardin also added two stolen bases.
“We played a very strong 6A team in awful weather and grinded through every inning,” Virdell said. “I believe we learned several valuable lessons that will only make us stronger as a team and as individuals.”
The Lady Bucks return home Friday to open district play against the Anthony Wildcats.
