Brewster County sheriff’s deputies detained nine migrants Sunday night who were attempting to circumvent the U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint on Highway 385, according to the Brewster County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities said the group included eight individuals from Mexico and one from Cuba. Deputies took the migrants into custody before referring them to U.S. Border Patrol agents for processing.
The sheriff’s office said Border Patrol will handle the individuals’ immigration proceedings and potential removal. No additional details about the circumstances of the apprehension were immediately released.
