A Big Bend region guide is encouraging businesses across Far West Texas to take a public stance against border wall construction by displaying posters declaring border wall workers unwelcome.
Charlie Angell, founder of Angell Expeditions, said he is offering the signs free of charge to business owners throughout the Big Bend region. Angell said he will bring printed copies to businesses or provide digital files so owners can print the posters themselves.
The sign features illustrations of regional wildlife alongside the phrases “DON’T FENCE US IN” and “NO WALL! WE ALL LIVE HERE!”
The main text of the poster reads: “WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO REFUSE SERVICE TO BORDER WALL WORKERS!!”
Angell, who is based in the Presidio County community of Redford near Big Bend Ranch State Park, operates guided river trips on the Rio Grande as well as hiking and four-wheel-drive tours across the Big Bend region.
He said the posters are intended to give businesses a visible way to express opposition to border wall construction in Far West Texas, where debate over the barrier has intensified among residents, conservation advocates and tourism operators.
Supporters of the wall argue the barrier is necessary to strengthen border security, while critics say construction could damage wildlife corridors and alter the desert landscape that draws visitors to the Big Bend region.
