Star Parties Return to Marathon Motel & RV Park as Spring Skies Darken

Stargazing events are returning to the Marathon Motel & RV Park this spring as clear desert skies and a coming new moon create ideal viewing conditions across the Big Bend region.

The property announced that “Bill’s Star Parties” have resumed for the season, offering visitors the chance to observe the night sky through telescopes under some of the darkest skies in Texas.

The timing coincides with the new moon on March 19, which reduces moonlight and improves visibility of stars, planets and deep-sky objects. Darker skies during this phase of the lunar cycle are widely considered among the best conditions for stargazing.

Located in Brewster County, Marathon sits within reach of the region’s internationally recognized dark skies, a feature that draws visitors to the area each year. The Big Bend region is home to some of the lowest levels of light pollution in the United States and has become a destination for astronomy enthusiasts.

Spring Break travel is expected to bring increased demand to the small West Texas town, and organizers are encouraging visitors to reserve spots in advance for the seasonal viewing events.

Reservations for the star parties can be made online through the Dark Texas Skies website.
