Alpine ISD students earn top honors at Big Bend Regional History Fair

Students from across Alpine ISD earned multiple top placements at the Big Bend Regional History Fair held at Sul Ross State University, with projects spanning topics from the Boston Tea Party to the Tylenol murders and the Berlin Wall.

At Alpine Elementary School, Tommy Munoz and Bubba Rinehart placed first in the elementary division group poster category with a project on the Boston Tea Party. Greyson Schniers and Rocky Brauch earned second place for a group poster on the Titanic, while Freeman Johnson-Edmonds received second place for an individual poster on the Battle of the Alamo.

Alpine Middle School students also saw strong results. Clara Rinehart placed first in the elementary division individual poster category with a project on Harriet Tubman. In the junior division, Harper Price and Lucy Escuder earned first place for a group performance on the Great Chicago Fire, and Adalee Schniers took first in individual performance with a project on Elizabeth Schuyler Hamilton. Harvey Quesada and Zachary Herring placed second for a group exhibit focused on the Berlin Wall.

At Alpine High School, students earned several senior division awards. Isabella Chavarria, Jaden Miller, Judith Frioux and Madalyn Carter won first place for a group documentary examining the 1982 Tylenol murders and resulting safety reforms. Chongxiao Wang earned first place for an individual documentary on the Peasants’ Revolt of 1381, while Cui Shi Wang took first in the paper category with a project on Vietnam Veterans Against the War.

Additional honors included second place for Alyna Gutierrez and Destiney Salguero for a group exhibit titled Breaking the Sun, and second place for Ngoc Do, Roseline Haas and Suzette Mendoza for a group website exploring Apollo 13 and engineering innovation.

The regional competition brings together students from across the Big Bend area to present research projects aligned with National History Day themes, highlighting historical analysis, creativity and presentation skills.
