Terlingua Students Explore Watershed Science Through River Rangers Program

Students participating in the Terlingua River Rangers program recently took part in a hands-on learning experience focused on the connection between healthy grasslands and watershed health in the Big Bend region.

According to the Big Bend Conservation Alliance, guest speaker Price Rumbelow of Rio Grande Joint Ventures visited the group to discuss how grasslands support wildlife, protect soil and influence water systems. The presentation introduced students to practical conservation approaches, including erosion control techniques and low-tech restoration methods such as one-rock dams.

Following the classroom portion, students went into the field to identify signs of erosion and observe land conditions firsthand, applying what they had learned to the surrounding landscape.

Program organizers credited Terlingua ISD educators and conservation partners for supporting the educational effort, which aims to build environmental awareness and stewardship among local youth.
