Bend Times is expanding its coverage and is seeking contributors across all communities in the region, including Alpine, Balmorhea, Fort Davis, Fort Stockton, Marathon, Marfa, Presidio, Terlingua, Sanderson, Van Horn, Ojinaga, and surrounding areas.
The publication is inviting writers, photographers, outdoor experts, artists, historians, and community members to help document life across Far West Texas and the Trans-Pecos.
Publisher David Flash said the goal is simple: build a stronger, more community-driven news and information platform that reflects the full range of voices across the region.
“I’m really good at building audience and understanding that people across this region want to know what’s happening everywhere — not just in their own town,” Flash said. “But I’m only one person. Big Bend Times will be much better when there are dozens of contributors and it becomes something the whole community participates in, not just one publisher.”
Who Big Bend Times Is Looking For
Contributors can come from many backgrounds, including:
Student journalists building experience Professional reporters or photographers Amateur writers with local knowledge Hunters, hikers, and outdoor enthusiasts Hunting or recreation guides Ranching or agriculture experts Artists promoting the regional art scene Local historians Book lovers interested in highlighting regional authors Event photographers Community members with story ideas
No formal journalism experience is required.
“Our basic standard is accuracy,” Flash said. “We don’t publish things that aren’t true.”
Opportunities to Promote Yourself While Contributing
Big Bend Times is also open to contributors who want to build visibility for themselves or their businesses while providing useful information to readers.
For example:
A hunting guide could write about seasonal conditions or wildlife trends A hiking expert could share trail insights or safety tips An artist could highlight gallery events or creative culture A photographer could document local life A business owner could write about community topics unrelated to their services
Contributors may include a professional signature identifying their business or expertise, allowing readers to learn more about them. Content itself should remain informational rather than promotional.
Building a Regional Platform Together
Big Bend Times has grown into the largest digital media outlet focused on the Big Bend region, reaching hundreds of thousands of readers through its website and social media platforms.
Flash said expanding the contributor network will strengthen both journalism and community connection.
“The vision is a platform where dozens of people are sharing what’s happening across the region — news, culture, outdoors, history, and everyday life,” he said. “That’s when it becomes truly valuable for everyone.”
