Sunshine House has received a $445,000 grant from the Mabee Foundation to support the remodeling and expansion of its campus, officials announced this week.
The funding will be used to complete renovations at Sunshine House’s new expanded facility, increasing space for meals, social programs and community services for seniors and people with disabilities in Alpine and Marathon.
Sunshine House operates a senior center in Alpine and provides Meals on Wheels services in the region. Officials said the remodel will significantly increase capacity for on-site dining, social activities and support programs, allowing the organization to serve more residents.
The expanded campus will include larger dining and gathering areas designed to accommodate growing demand for services. Leaders said the improvements will help ensure that residents who rely on the nonprofit for meals, companionship and assistance are not turned away because of space limitations.
The grant is expected to strengthen Sunshine House’s long-term role in the community by improving access to nutrition, social connection and supportive care for vulnerable populations.
For decades, Sunshine House has served as a community resource in Alpine, delivering meals and providing a central gathering place for older adults and individuals with disabilities. Officials said the renovation will help preserve and expand that mission for future generations.
