Registration Opens for 2026 “Smoke in the Mountains” BBQ Cook-Off in Fort Davis

Registration for the popular Smoke in the Mountains BBQ Cook-Off will open Sunday, February 8, at 2 p.m., giving barbecue teams across the region a chance to secure their spot in one of West Texas’ signature summer events.

Organizers announced that entries for chicken, brisket, and rib categories will be capped at 65 teams, continuing the competition’s tradition of maintaining a high-quality and well-managed field. The annual event is scheduled for June 5–6, 2026, in Fort Davis.

In addition to the main competition categories, organizers will again offer optional jackpot divisions for participants interested in specialty contests. These include Junior Pitmaster, Senior Pitmaster, Ribeye, Margaritas, Salsa, Dessert, and Cabrito.

Teams interested in competing or entering jackpot-only categories are encouraged to register promptly once the system opens, as spots are expected to fill quickly. A separate form will be made available online for jackpot-only participants.

The “Smoke in the Mountains” cook-off has become a major regional attraction, drawing competitors and visitors from across West Texas and beyond. The event combines competitive barbecue with community activities, live entertainment, and local fundraising efforts.

Organizers said full registration details and updates will be posted on the event’s official website.

With limited space and strong demand each year, teams are advised to prepare in advance to ensure they don’t miss the opportunity to compete in the 2026 event.
