A Presidio man has been taken into custody on charges of felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and making a terroristic threat following an incident on a ranch road in Presidio County, according to the Presidio County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities said the incident occurred Monday after a truck driver allegedly ran over the suspect’s dog. Investigators allege the suspect later used a handgun to strike the driver in the face.
Sheriff’s deputies responded after the injured driver reached a nearby gas station and requested help. Upon arrival, deputies called for emergency medical services due to the severity of the victim’s injuries, which included a broken nose and additional injuries.
The sheriff’s office said investigators reviewed video footage of the incident and collected witness statements. An arrest warrant was served Tuesday, Jan. 28.
The dog involved in the incident sustained minor injuries and is expected to recover fully, according to authorities.
The investigation remains ongoing.
