Agents assigned to the U.S. Border Patrol Big Bend Sector seized more than 110 pounds of abandoned marijuana during an operation near the Rio Grande, according to an announcement posted by the agency.
The seizure, carried out by agents working in the Presidio area, involved marijuana with an estimated street value of more than $88,000. Border Patrol officials said the narcotics were recovered through coordinated enforcement efforts and are no longer in circulation.
“Another win for border security,” the agency stated in its announcement, crediting Presidio agents for their teamwork during the operation.
No arrests were announced in connection with the seizure, and authorities indicated the marijuana had been abandoned prior to recovery.
The U.S. Border Patrol routinely reports narcotics seizures in the Big Bend region, where agents patrol remote terrain along the U.S.–Mexico border.
