U.S. Border Patrol agents working at an immigration checkpoint near Marfa intercepted a driver who was allegedly transporting about 40 pounds of marijuana concealed inside a spare tire, according to the agency.
Border Patrol said the driver was arrested and faces felony drug smuggling charges.
The agency did not release additional details about the driver or where the vehicle was headed.
“Smuggling drugs has serious consequences, and you will be prosecuted,” Border Patrol said in a statement.
The Marfa-area checkpoint is part of the federal government’s inland enforcement network, which screens vehicles traveling through the Big Bend region.
