Koi, a fluffy young puppy with a gentle personality and a growing list of good habits, has been named this week’s Pet of the Week at Alpine Animal Services.
From now through the end of the day Sunday, Jan. 18, Koi’s adoption fee has been reduced to $50, half the normal cost. The fee includes neuter surgery, a microchip, a heartworm test, and all vaccinations, according to shelter staff.
Koi was brought into the shelter on Dec. 15 after he was found running loose within the Alpine city limits. Since arriving, staff say he has quickly shown himself to be a friendly, affectionate dog who enjoys being around both children and adults.
While the shelter has not yet tested him in direct play sessions with other dogs, staff say he appears excited in a positive way when he sees other dogs nearby, indicating he may do well in a home with a canine companion after proper introductions.
Koi has also made strong progress learning to walk on a leash. Staff report he stays close and does not pull, making him an easier fit for families looking for a dog who can join them on walks around town.
Like most puppies, Koi will still need some potty training, but staff believe he will pick it up quickly. He has already learned to sit in a short period of time and responds well to treats, suggesting he is motivated to learn and ready for basic training at home.
Shelter staff describe Koi as a lovable, sweet puppy who would make an excellent family dog and could become a young child’s best friend.
Koi is available to meet and adopt at Alpine Animal Services Shelter, located at 2900 Old Marathon Highway in Alpine.
