A community protest and gathering titled “ICE Out for Good” is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 10, in Terlingua as part of what organizers are calling a Day of Action.
The event will take place from 10 a.m. to noon at the intersection of Highway 118 and FM 170 in Terlingua.
According to organizers, the action is intended to draw attention to immigration enforcement activity affecting border communities in Terlingua, Marfa, and Candelaria. The event follows the death of an American citizen earlier this week during an encounter with Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers in Minneapolis, Minnesota, which organizers describe as part of a broader pattern of federal immigration enforcement practices they oppose.
Organizers state that the demonstration is grounded in a commitment to nonviolent action and no civil disobedience. Participants are encouraged to act lawfully, de-escalate potential confrontations, and respect differing viewpoints. Weapons of any kind, including those legally permitted, are not allowed at the event.
The gathering is open to the public, and community members are invited to attend peacefully and responsibly.
