Alpine Animal Services has named Powder its Pet of the Week, offering a reduced adoption fee through Sunday, January 11, in hopes of finding the playful pup a permanent home.
From now until the end of the day Sunday, Powder can be adopted for $50, half the normal adoption fee. The fee includes neutering, a heartworm test, microchip, and all vaccinations.
Powder arrived at the shelter on November 6 after being found running loose within Alpine city limits. Shelter staff say he was shy at first, but an unexpected breakthrough came when a young child was able to earn his trust — a moment that revealed Powder’s gentle nature.
“Powder absolutely loves kids,” staff said, noting that while he warms up quickly to children, he prefers to get to know adults a bit before fully opening up.
The dog is described as energetic, playful, and especially fond of rough-and-tumble play with other dogs. Staff report that Powder walks well on a leash with no pulling, keeps a clean kennel, and patiently waits for potty breaks.
He is currently learning basic commands, including “sit,” and is highly treat-motivated. Once comfortable, Powder shows a goofy, affectionate personality that has quickly made him a staff favorite.
Those interested in meeting Powder can visit Alpine Animal Services Shelter, located at 2900 Old Marathon Highway, Alpine, Texas 79830.
