48 Dogs Seized in South Brewster County Animal Cruelty Investigation; Man Arrested

Brewster County deputies executed a search warrant Monday at a residence in South Brewster County, resulting in the seizure of 48 dogs and the arrest of a local man on multiple felony and misdemeanor charges, according to the Brewster County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities said the animals were removed from the property due to inhumane living conditions and mistreatment. Evidence collected during the search established probable cause for the arrest of Rique Jose Rivera, who has been charged with endangering a child, cruelty to animals, unlawful restraint of a dog, and additional violations.

Officials said the investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges are possible.

The sheriff’s office also acknowledged and thanked community volunteers who assisted in caring for the dogs following their removal from the property.
