Olive has been named Pet of the Week at Alpine Animal Services, and she’s ready to meet her forever family.
From now through Sunday, Dec. 21, Olive can be adopted for $50, which is half the normal adoption fee. The adoption fee includes her spay, heartworm test, microchip, and vaccinations.
Olive came into the shelter on Dec. 2 after being surrendered by her previous family. She was originally found in San Antonio and cared for temporarily before it became clear that a permanent home was not possible.
Shelter staff received helpful background information from Olive’s former owners, who shared that she does well with other dogs, cats, and children. That temperament has held true during her time at the shelter.
Olive is also proving to be an excellent walking companion. Staff describe her as a pro on a leash, though she’s still working on a quirky habit of circling the person walking her instead of heading straight ahead.
She appears to be mostly potty trained, keeping her kennel clean whenever possible. Olive is playful and curious, and she especially enjoys toys. When bored, she’s been known to entertain herself with her water bowl, so enrichment and playtime are important for keeping her happy.
Affectionate by nature, Olive is a classic “Velcro dog.” Once she bonds with someone, she prefers to stay close and follow them wherever they go.
Those interested in meeting Olive can visit Alpine Animal Services Shelter at 2900 Old Marathon Highway, Alpine, TX 79830.
